Haddam - Daytime Sightseeing Cruise
Posted on: 2021-06-14
What: Daytime Sightseeing Cruise
Where: Departs from Eagle Landing State Park 14 Little Meadow Rd., Haddam, CT
When: 6/19/2021 (Saturday), 1:30pm – 3pm
At the end of your day, a peaceful cruise will let you relax! Whether you are visiting, new to the area, or a local who just wants to remember what a beautiful area we live in, this is a great opportunity to join us aboard RiverQuest and experience the river as we cruise along these unspoiled waters. Enjoy the spectacular beauty as we aimlessly cruise the lower Connecticut River, an area that the Nature Conservancy considers to be “One of the Last Great Places.” On this cruise, about two hours in length, we do only light narration so that you can just relax and enjoy. We may have a small table for you and there will be a chair available so that you can sit comfortably during the cruise. The cruise is very casual, you can walk about the boat if you’d like.

New London - Forest Dreaming/Sculptures and Paintings by Ana Flores
Posted on: 2021-06-14
What: Forest Dreaming/Sculptures and Paintings by Ana Flores
Where: Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams Street, New London, CT 06320
When: 6/12/2021 - 10/24/2021, Tues – Sat: 10 am – 5 pm, Sun: 1 – 5 pm
Having lived for decades at the edge of a forest, the boundaries between the studio and the land have dissolved for artist Ana Flores. “My intellectual and aesthetic bedrock which was once narrowly focused on art history has shifted, earth stories have become the compelling force for my creative work.” Forest Dreaming is a selection from works that inspired this shift of consciousness and made Flores an ecological artist. During her career, along with gallery and museum exhibitions, she has worked with environmental groups all over the country and designed parks. The show will include her recent outdoor sculptures, “Forest Dialogue.” These bronze chairs turning back into trees, invite the public to sit and meditate on our connection to the natural world. A series of outdoor events are scheduled using the chairs as an invitation to dialogue and ponder the connection between art and the environment. Stay tuned for more information on when these events will take place.

Old Lyme - Social & Solitary: Reflections on Art, Isolation, and Renewal
Posted on: 2021-06-14
What: Social & Solitary: Reflections on Art, Isolation, and Renewal
Where: Florence Griswold Museum 96 Lyme St., Old Lyme, CT
When: 6/5/2021 - 9/19/2021, Tue.-Sun. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Social & Solitary: Reflections on Art, Isolation, and Renewal, an exhibition of historic and contemporary works from the Museum’s collection, reflects on what our world has faced over the past year. In the days of the Lyme Art Colony and now, our buildings and landscape have been spaces for social and solitary contemplation. The global crisis caused by the coronavirus spurred many changes in our society, including the sudden redefinition of the meanings of being social, solitary, and both at once. This exhibition invites contemplation of the ways in which we have changed how we interact with each other, the world, and with art. The Museum hopes visitors will use the exhibition, our gardens, and grounds as a space to contemplate, process, and perhaps begin to heal.
